YouTube channel ETA PRIME wanted to test whether it is possible to connect an external graphics card to the Valve Steam Deck portable game console in order to play games in 4K resolution. It seems to have worked after trying slightly different solutions.
The solution they eventually succeeded in was connecting an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU to the Steam Deck. To get it all, you also had to run Windows 11 instead of Steam Deck’s Linux OS. Since the Steam Decks monitor does not support 4K resolution, you also had to connect an external monitor to test a few different 4K games.
After a lot of work, ETA Prime was able to run Witcher 3 And GTA 4 4K resolution. You can also drive elden ring 1080p resolution. You can check out how ETA Prime connects an external graphics card in the video below and there are also some clips when you try to play in 4K via Steam Deck.
The whole thing seemed like a fun experience, but there’s probably nothing recommended if you don’t have a good idea of what you’re doing.
