Rumour: Vapor deck upgrade for valve plans –

In an interview with The Verge, Steam Deck designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais revealed that Valve has extensive plans to modernize their small handheld devices. Both with new hardware as well as software. When asked what improvements they’d like to see, both Yang and Griffais cited screen and battery life as the main candidates, but they couldn’t provide more specific details than that. However, the underlying performance on the Steam Deck was clear that it likely won’t change in the near future.

“Right now, the fact that all Steam Decks can play the same games and that we have one goal for users to understand what kind of level of performance they can expect when playing and for developers to understand what to aim for… there’s a lot of value in having those specs,” he said.

“I think we’ll choose to keep one level of performance for a little bit longer, and only look at changing the level of performance when there’s a significant gain to be had.”

We have changed the geometry of the adhesive, which makes the battery easier to disassemble.

“Things are so crowded with the deck at the moment we can’t be everywhere at once,” he said.

In short, there seems to be a lot planned for the little machine next year, and it’s good that Valve is really betting on what has been (so far) a smash hit for them.

Do you own a Steam Deck today, or plan to buy one next year?
