The game takes place before the events of the movies and books, after the hobbit Sméagol grabs the magic ring and turns into Gollum. The game has nothing to do with the Peter Jackson movies, but it is a completely independent story based on the books.
The game focuses more on stealth than combat and will make choices based on Gollum’s split personality.
