Users reported blue screen crashes when starting the computer after installing the update. the edge Reports indicate that the error is common enough that Microsoft has posted a support page stating that it is checking “if the problem is Microsoft”.
Users on both Reddit and other forums have reported crashes. Verge Editor Tom Warren himself took a beating on a gaming PC with an MSI MPG Z690 Carbon Wifi motherboard.
Fortunately, Windows’ automatic recovery feature can rescue a computer after a failure and roll back to a previous version, and according to The Verge, Microsoft has stopped installing the update on potentially affected computers.
The crash error message contains a stop code UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOROne possibility is that the error is due to a recently released update to the UEFI software, BIOS, from MSI which adds support for 14th Generation Intel processors. One Reddit user also wrote that he was able to install the update without issues after downgrading to a previous BIOS version.
