Sonos products get DTS audio

Sonos speakers support a number of popular Dolby audio formats. On the other hand, DTS audio support (frequently used on DVD, Blu-ray, etc.), has enjoyed its absence for a long time. But that is finally changing now! The Sonos S2 app is getting an important update rolling out today, and one of the news is just DTS Digital Surround decoding. However, recent DTS-HD and DTS:X formats are not mentioned.

The update applies to Sonos Arc, Beam (Gen 2), Beam (Gen 1), PlayBar, PlayBase, and Amp running on the S2 platform. You will then see a DTS confirmation icon in the Sonos app when content is streamed using DTS Digital Surround.

In addition to the DTS update, the Roam and Move portable speakers get a new battery-saving mode. When this setting is turned on in the Sonos app, the portable speaker turns off completely automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity. Then the Move is said to keep the battery for up to 30 days, while the Roam will keep the battery for up to 70 days. When battery saver is activated, the speakers should actually be turned on using the Power button.

The EQ settings are another novelty: Apple iOS users who stream music will now be able to adjust treble, bass, and loudness directly via Played now In the Sonos app. This feature will be available to Android users at a later time.

Sonos users can find the update in the Sonos app (Settings > System > System updates > Check for updates).

Sonos also mentions that support for Dolby Atmos Music and Amazon Music Ultra HD is very close.
