Simone Biles has saved World Tag Team Championship gold – after a miss by Lian Wong

The United States dominated qualifying for the Team Championship and were heavy favorites for tonight’s final. It certainly held up to the pressure, even if things weren’t exactly flawless.

Miss Wong

Leanne Wong made a huge mistake on beam when she fell early in the program. The American star scored 11,700 points, the lowest of the day.

– She did not miss 22 series, and then the start of the competition is in the World Cup final, and then she misses the barrier. “It’s incredibly boring,” Wagner says.

Biles took gold

Biles dominated both vault and floor and was also responsible for impressive efforts on bars and beam. The superstar’s stellar performance kept the United States among the favorites to win the gold medal for the seventh time in a row.

– Wow, it’s home, shouted SVT commentator Anna Maria Fredholm, after Biles’ last stand alone.

Great Britain were seen as one of the medal contenders in the competition, but after several big mistakes they never came close to making the podium.

Historical Brazil

Instead, Brazil and France, somewhat unexpectedly, took the other medals. For Brazil, the medal today was historic, as they had never won a medal in the team competition before. France’s medal was the team’s first since 1950.

Today’s gold medal means the U.S. women touched the record held by China’s men for the most consecutive team gold medals. Additionally, Biles is now the most decorated gymnast in history.

The Swedish team ranked eighteenth in the qualifiers, which means it does not qualify for today’s final.
