Theoretical speed tests are interesting because they are done the same way every time but do they actually mean anything? Both yes and no Of course, it is clear that a faster phone or computer in a theoretical test is usually faster in real tasks as well. But automated tests of how things work in everyday life are also interesting.
PhoneBuff has been testing this very thing for a long time now. The newer iPhone has been doing really well at this point and for several years it’s been clear number one. The latest Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that is supposed to be custom-built for Samsung and seems to deliver in reality. In the first round of this test, the Samsung was about a second faster than the iPhone. In the end, phones are just as fast, though in part because it’s easier to get to the home screen than to games on iOS.
A new iPhone is expected in the fall, and then we’ll see if Apple picks things up again this year.
