The law on the application of the rules on the integration of social security organizations into the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom is coming into force.

The law coming into force on June 1, 2022 will apply to the application of the rules on the integration of social security organizations into the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom. This Act introduces the provisions of the National Act which accompany the Agreement. The law applies to the integration of social security systems only for persons moving between Finland and the United Kingdom.

Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the EU and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on social security similar to the one between the EU countries. The rules on the integration of social security systems in this Trade and Cooperation Agreement apply to all persons moving between the United Kingdom and the European Union. In support of the terms of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement, a national law is enacted on certain matters of competence and national practice.

Its purpose is to ensure that the law guarantees continuity and consistent practice in the integration of social security in cross-border situations. The aim is to ensure that the integration of social security in Finland and the United Kingdom takes place largely as before. There is legislation to ensure that the rights of the individual to social security are enforced.
