With typically 30-35,000 visitors, Way Out West is one of the giants of the Sweden Festival. The organizers of the Gothenburg festival announced today that they will have to cancel in 2021 as well.
Since 2007, Slottsskogen in Gothenburg has been taken over and turned into a huge festival area for music, movies and food. Here, artists from the world such as Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Lana Del Rey, Prince, Robin, Alicia Keys, BJ Harvey and Erica Badu have charmed over the years.
In 2020, the Corona pandemic put an end to the festival, and today the organizers announced that they will have to cancel the 2021 edition as well.
With the current situation in mind, it’s impossible to run an event like Way Out West the way we want it to, festival director Philip Hiltman says in a press release.
Work has already begun on the 2022 festival scheduled for August 11-13. In the next few weeks, it is hoped that the top performers will be presented, and in three weeks, Tuesday 25 May, tickets will be launched.
Our eyes are fixed in 2022 and we have expected a lot of pressure on tickets from the start. Major festivals in both the UK and US have sold out at any point during the spring, and we think the same phenomenon will manifest itself here, says Philip Hiltman.
