The European Union and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement in principle on fisheries quotas, the European Commission has announced.
The talks ended on Wednesday with a telephone conversation between EU Commissioner for Fisheries Virginius Cincinnatius and British Environment Minister George Eustace.
The agreement is based on the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (DCA) with the United Kingdom following Brexit.
The parties have agreed on how much can be caught from the 75 fish stocks split in 2021 and some deep-sea stocks in 2021-2022.
This is the first time the parties have signed an agreement with the DCA since the UK left the EU. The signing is expected to take place within the next few days.
