‘Huge’ victory at Silverstone last weekend, but Max Verstappen is humble about this weekend’s race in hot Barcelona. In turn, Formula 1 sporting director Ross Brawn sees many similarities between Verstappen and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
The F1 calendar is tight. After two races at Silverstone, the drivers had to travel directly to Spain. Already this coming weekend, there is a competition in Barcelona.
Max Verstappen arrives in Catalunya after showing strength in the last race.
At Silverstone, Mercedes suffered tire problems due to the heat, something Red Bull was able to exploit. Temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees for Barcelona this weekend, but that means nothing for Verstappen.
Barcelona’s path is different. We will see how strong we are against Mercedes this time and how the heat affects everyone, thought the Dutchman ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix.
With his win last week, Verstappen rose to second place in the world championship summary, overtaking Valtteri Bottas. The distance to Lewis Hamilton first is 30 points.
The win was a huge achievement for the team and Honda. Verstappen summed up the stunning result that came somewhat unexpectedly.

The latest to be impressed by the 22-year-old’s performance last week was Formula 1 sporting director Ross Brawn.
– It was simply exciting. He resembles Michael Schumacher in many ways, and paid tribute to Brawn, who served as technical director of Benetton and Ferrari during the years when Schumi dominated.
Bottas is frustrated
Valtteri Bottas comes to Spain with slightly worse memories of Silverstone than Verstappen. In Sunday’s race, the Finn’s first place turned into third place.
At the Spanish Grand Prix, Bottas tries to address Great Britain’s frustration.
– Frustration is really the right word. The results were not what we wanted, especially in the second race at Silverstone, because you can’t aim for anything but winning when you start from square one.
– There were two very different weekends at Silverstone, but I didn’t get the most out of myself in either race. We have learned a lot and now we are moving forward, Bottas commented in today’s press conference.
Tire inspection in particular is something to focus on.
-We have a fast car and we were faster than others in some corners. This still isn’t the complete explanation as to why our tires wear more than others, I think there is another reason behind it as well. We are trying to understand it better.
