Google is being sued for billions – because the apps were too expensive

Google will go to court after a British court approved a lawsuit demanding the company 920 million pounds, equivalent to 11.3 billion crowns, Reuters news agency reports.

The class action was approved Monday and is based on allegations that the tech company has charged fees of up to 30 percent when buying popular apps like Candy Crush Saga and Tinder since 2015 and thus abused its dominant position.

A total of 19.5 million customers are said to have been affected.

The lawsuit is just one of a series brought against tech giants like Google and Apple in recent years. The European Union alone imposed a fine on Google of about 8 billion euros, equivalent to 84 billion kroner.

Last year, a court filing showed that Google generated $11.2 billion in revenue from its mobile app store in 2019.
