Queen Elizabeth II, the oldest king in the world, is 95 years old today. But there will be no special celebration – the mourning period after the death of her husband Prince Phillips on April 9 is still going on.
In addition, the Queen follows a tradition that has existed in the British royal family since the 18th century: the ceremonies are held in June, regardless of when the Regent’s birthday falls.
His Majesty spends Memorial Day at Windsor Castle, where he and his late wife spent a lot of time on epidemics. Regular salute shots are not fired and the traditional parade is canceled.
For her age, the Queen is in very good shape, but it is clear that her time on the throne is coming to an end. Phillips’ death, after 73 years of marriage, is a reminder that even Elizabeth’s glorious reign will one day be history.
When Elizabeth was born in 1926, she was not expected to become queen. But in 1936, his uncle, King Edward VIII, resigned to marry the divorced American Wallis Simpson. The throne went to Edward’s brother and Elizabeth’s father, George King VI, who was suddenly heir to the throne.

Elizabeth became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25, and George VI was diagnosed with lung cancer. She was on safari in Kenya at the time. She says she became Regent at a very young age, and she is reluctant to celebrate the anniversary of the throne – it’s her father’s death anniversary.
