Anyone who uses a vpn to use the internet anonymously without being tracked and running iOS might have a little cause for concern. The problem is that the existing connections are not interrupted when the vpn tunnel is activated. Some tcp connections can be active for several minutes or even hours without disconnecting and reconnecting, and thus are not protected by a vpn. In theory, this also means that the server can get your real ip address and the other one from the vpn service, thus connecting what you are doing behind the vpn connection to your real ip address.
Michael Horowitz tested the leaks using several vpn apps, including Swedish Ovpn, and the same result was that some data was still being sent on the vpn tunnel side.
