The division, which will continue to promote top comedy talent, is also expanding its staff, having recently appointed junior promoter Ophelia Francis. Further appointments are to be confirmed in due course.
This change reflects AEG Presents UK's move into streaming and other forms of live entertainment: the promoter recently announced a new podcast tour 'The Rest is Politics', hosted by former government doctor Alistair Campbell and Minister Rory Stewart, which is one of the most popular podcasts in the UK .
Recent live entertainment events overseen by AEG include Millie Bobby Brown's book launch, a live Q&A with Ryan Reynolds at London's o2 arena, and the live edition of veteran BBC interview show Desert Island Discs.
“Over the past year, we have built up the portfolio of shows that the department promotes, so it makes sense to have a new name to reflect that,” Donnelly said. “While the UK comedy scene is still very vibrant, there are all kinds of shows that we have found that audiences are interested in coming to. We have focused heavily on podcasts, for example, we have developed the show ‘The Rest is Politics Live’ from London Palladium to the next o2 performance. The team and I are excited and energized for the year ahead.”
