Two big British teams are in the Champions League final, but there is no chance for British fans to travel to Turkey. The United Kingdom placed Turkey on a “red list” for travel to the country, which would have prevented British fans from watching the match live.
However, the United Kingdom does not impose restrictions on travel to Portugal. The final between Chelsea and Manchester City will now take place in Porto, and both Chelsea and Manchester City will be allowed to bring 6,000 fans.
– Fans have suffered for over 12 months without ever getting a chance to watch their teams live. Reaching the Champions League final is a high point in club football. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said denying fans the opportunity to watch the match live was not an option, according to UEFA’s press release.
According to Uefa, the 6,000 tickets that each team is allowed to sell must be released as quickly as possible. It will become clear later how many spectators can finally be allowed into the arena.
Moving the match to be played in England might also have been an option, but in the end no solution was found on that. The Champions League final was also held in Portugal last year, and then in Lisbon.
