Finland defeated Great Britain at the beginning of November and qualified for the next stage of qualifying for the 2025 World Cup. Now it has become clear that Lithuania will be Finland’s next opponent.

Over the course of Tuesday in Vienna, the draw was made as to which teams will meet in the next qualifying round for the 2025 World Cup. Finland faces Lithuania in the next qualifying match, a draw with which coach Ola Lindgren seems relatively satisfied.

The draw was good, but as I said before, all the participating teams are very equal. “The draw could have been worse and we are happy about that,” Lindgren said after the draw. Finnish Handball Federation website.

Finland already has previous experience with Lithuania, when the two teams met in January in the Baltic Sea Cup, where Finland won 27-26. In addition, the two teams will also meet in the upcoming Baltic Cup in December before the start of the year.

– Both teams have many young players and the lineup is certainly very different from the qualifying matches. “I won’t draw too many conclusions from the next match in light of the qualifying match,” says Ola Lindgren.

The first match will be held on March 13 and 14, 2024, and the second on March 16 and 17. According to the draw, the first match will be held in Finland and the second in Lithuania. The winning team after the two matches qualifies for the next stage of qualifying and has a chance to fight for a place in the World Cup.
