North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un attended the opening ceremony of a newly built street in the capital, Pyongyang, on Tuesday. But he did not come alone.
“Kim Jong Un and his beloved daughter arrived at the ceremony.”writes the official North Korean news agency KCNA.
Next to Kim Jong Un was his daughter Jo Ae, believed to be eleven years old.
This was the first time in two months that Ju-Ae had appeared in public. Recently, she visited a military facility with her father.
He was chosen as Kim Jong-un's successor
In November 2022, Go-Ae made her first public appearance when she inspected the intercontinental robot Hwasong-17 with Kim Jong-un. Since then, she has been seen alongside her father on a large number of occasions.
Cho Tae-yong, the head of South Korea's intelligence service, has said that Joo-ae is likely to be Kim Jong-un's intended successor.
A sign of this is the special word used by the Korean Central News Agency in reporting on Jo Ae's appearance with Kim Jong Un. “Hyangdu,” which roughly translates to “great guiding person,” is a term commonly used for the country's senior leaders and their successors, Agence France-Presse wrote. Since KCNA used the term in the plural, according to AFP, it could be interpreted as referring to both father and daughter.
“This level of worship of Kim Jo-ae strongly indicates that she will succeed Kim Jong-un as North Korea's leader,” said Yang Moo-jin, director of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul.
