Hocksjön Wind Park is now fully operational

Hocksjön Wind Park is now fully operational

After two years of construction, the largest locally owned wind farm in the region is now fully operational. Production from 23 wind turbines corresponds to renewable electricity for about 88,000 households. Jämtkraft and Persson Invest are behind the investment.

The investment is strategic in many ways and is exactly the right time. First, there is a huge need for more renewable energy sources so that we can deal with climate change. Second, with local owners, we can ensure that wind power development benefits our region, says Gabriel Dovskoog, CEO of Hocksjön Vind AB, the company set up by Jämtkraft and Persson Invest for this purpose.

One lap gives five miles in an electric car
Wind turbines are built with the latest technology and materials, which contributes to high efficiency. Production from the Hocksjön Wind Power Park corresponds to approximately 50 percent of Jämtkraft’s total hydropower production from its 17 hydroelectric power plants. One turn in a factory generates electricity corresponding to about five miles in an electric car, and the annual production of one factory is sufficient for the annual consumption of about 10,000 electric cars.

40 local entrepreneurs
An important part of the project was contributing to providing job opportunities for local companies. In total, more than 40 different contractors have carried out various works inside and outside the Wind Power District, contributing to job opportunities for their employees. This included, among other things, burying cables, building roads, and transporting materials. One of the local contractors was Abrahamssons byg of Hammerdal, who built the park service house. There will be workplace for five full-time employees during the operation phase of the facility.

– Local anchoring is very important to us. In addition to cooperating with local businesses, we also win open dialogue with nearby residents and a large on-site presence. For example, we were constantly present at local community centers, says Gabriel Dovescuog.
