Prior to the jumbo meeting, Great Britain had lost six consecutive defeats with a 5-38 goal difference, France also had six consecutive defeats with 11-30 in the column.
Once the match started, the French were even hotter. However, the main goal came only at the start of the second half when Anthony Rich scored 1-0. Within four minutes, the team expanded to 2-0 and 3-0.
But Britain, which has not participated in the World Cup finals since 1994 and won the World Cup since 1962, is back.
turn around and win
Before the break, Robert Dodd and Mike Hammond made the jump with two quick goals.
Robert Farmer fixed the tie and when Ben Davies decided in extra time it was a fact: Great Britain avoided exiting the World Cup A at France’s expense and the cheers were of course great at Kosice.
Exciting victory for Italy
– It’s totally unrealistic, and I can’t describe it any other way. Something I will remember for the rest of my life, match winner Ben Davies tells SVT Sport.
In parallel, in Group B, Italy stood out when the team defeated Austria 4-3 after a penalty shootout. Which means that the Italians, just like the British, will take the World Cup in Switzerland next year – at the expense of neighboring Austria.
– It’s a great feeling. I could not see that Austria would lose to Italy. It’s almost unimaginable to me, says SVT sports expert Mikael Renberg.
