Cold Response 2022 – Swedish Armed Forces

Cold Response is a Norway-led winter exercise in which NATO allies and partner countries, Partnership for Peace countries, are invited to participate. In addition to the host countries Norway and NATO forces, participating units come from the USA, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Canada, Belgium and Sweden.

The participation of Swedish land units consists of a reduced brigade combat group that is organized together with units of the Finnish army. The Swedish participants in the ground are about 1,500 soldiers and officers, these come from the Norrbotten Regiment, Norland Dragon Regiment, Boden Artillery Regiment, Göta trängremente, Ledningsregementet, Livgardet, Försvarsmaktens Technical School, Försvarsstricincentrum, Mark Arméstaben.

In addition to the Swedish land units, the Air Force also participates with units from the Norrbotten Air Fleet, the F-21. A total of about 150 soldiers and officers from the F-21 participate.

The exercise is performed in a ground training area in several parts of Norway. The area of ​​land exercises in Northern Norway extends from Narvik in the south to Finnmark in the north, but the main part of the exercises of the Swedish-Finnish Brigade Combat Team is carried out in Troms County. The exercise area for naval units is located in the waters off the coast of Norway and the air exercise area is in parts of Norwegian airspace.
