A new airline creates 200,000 new jobs

The owner will be the Saudi Investment Fund PIF and the base of operations will be the Saudi capital Riyadh, according to today’s announcement, and the intention is to travel to more than 100 destinations by 2030.

The country already owns Saudi Arabian Airlines, which operates under the name Saudia and has its main base in Jeddah. However, the Saudi leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has already launched his “Vision 2030” agenda goal in which Saudi Arabia is supposed to receive more than 330 million visitors annually by the end of the decade. Last year, it was also announced that a new airport would be built in Riyadh, with a capacity much larger than the current one.

Tourism and foreign visitors should contribute to making Saudi Arabia’s economy less dependent on the country’s oil production.

It is not clear what kind of aircraft the new company will use, but the Wall Street Journal reported that US aircraft maker Boeing is about to receive a giant order from Saudi Arabia worth the equivalent of SEK 370 billion.

For the American company Boeing, which has been seriously exposed during the pandemic, in this case it is the second giant deal in a short time. In February, it was announced from the Indian side that it had ordered a total of 470 aircraft, of which 220 were from Boeing, in a project that also includes European competitor Airbus.
