Tourists angry at prices: 'Stay away' | the world

At the northern tip of Norway is the popular tourist destination Nordkapphallen. The site is the second largest in the north of the country and is located at an altitude of more than 300 meters above sea level.

A visit here is therefore a real experience – yet entry prices to the area leave something to be desired, at least according to some.

For 315 NOK, you can access historical exhibitions and a panoramic cinema at the Nordkapphallen Experience Centre. But those who just want to buy a cup of coffee in a cafe or have a look in the souvenir shop also have to pay.

This recently angered a group of German tourists so much that they chose to turn around at the door, Dagbladet writes.

“Stay away”

The Germans are not alone in their anger. On Tripadvisor, other tourists shared their experience.

“All we wanted was coffee and some souvenirs, but we had to pay to enter the store and the restaurant.”“, writes a Dutch tourist.

“It's worth going to Nordkapp, but stay away from Nordkapphallen,” writes another.

This is not the first time that the Nordkapphallen Hotel, run by the Scandic hotel chain, has been exposed to bad weather. Recently, they lost a legal battle which means they are not allowed to charge for parking on the plateau, according to Dagbladet.

Hans Paul Hansen, director of Scandic Nordkapp, tells the newspaper that approximately 280,000 people visit the venue annually, and more than 90 percent of them buy admission to the hall.

– He says that the response from guests in general is very positive.
