Giant strawberries weighing about 300 grams set a record after being placed in the freezer for a year.
Farmer Shahi Ariel said: – We are very happy to be in the Guinness Book of Records.
Giant strawberries were picked on the Chahi Ariel family’s farm in Israel. It weighed 289 grams and was frozen pending a message from the Guinness Book of Records Sky News.
When Chahee Ariel finally got the message – it was the biggest strawberry in the world – he jumped up and down and laughed out loud.
– We waited for a year. He says it wasn’t as nice as before.
The biggest in the world – it was the biggest
According to Ariel, strawberries were twice as large when they were first picked in Netanya, central Israel. But the jumbo man shrank in the freezer while they waited to see if he would qualify for the record haul.
The strawberry variety is called Ilan and it’s a native variety that tends to grow especially tall. On the other hand, it has never been picked and weighed before at the size it is now.
The previous record was set in Fukuoka, Japan – the weight of the strawberry was 250 grams.
