Von der Leyen: Russia wants to write about the rules

At the annual Security Conference in Munich, the main topic is clear: the situation in Ukraine. Russia, one of the main figures, chose not to send any delegates, but European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the situation in her speech.

In her appearance, she referred to Russia and China as countries trying to replace existing international norms and using intimidation tactics. In addition, it issued a warning to Russia that “severe economic sanctions await” Moscow in the event of an attack on Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also made a statement on Saturday stressing that it is not too late for Russia to turn around.

– We once again ask Russia to do what is said, to withdraw its forces from the border with Russia. It is not too late for Moscow, says Stoltenberg.

Stoltenberg points out that if you still choose to attack, that will ultimately mean a larger NATO presence.

– If the Kremlin’s goal is for NATO to have a smaller presence on its borders, then this will mean only the opposite, says Stoltenberg, adding that they will “take all measures to protect their allies.”
