Tallink Group signs a long-term charter agreement for the Star vessel

Tallink Group today signed an agreement with Irish Continental Group plc. For long term charter of the company’s shuttle ship Star. The vessel will be chartered for 20 months with the possibility of extension for 2 + 2 years, including option to purchase. The agreement applies to the charter boat, which means that the vessel will be chartered without a crew from Tallink Grupp.

The Estonian-flagged Star Shuttle, which was launched on the Tallinn-Helsinki route in 2007 and has operated the route ever since, changed the game on the Estonia-Finland route and pioneered this type of vessel in the Baltic Sea. For more than a decade, it has been on the road alongside the company’s next shuttle ships Superstar, Megastar, and MyStar. Since the company’s latest MyStar addition was delivered last December, Star has been providing a “light shuttle” product between Tallinn and Helsinki, with fewer daily flights and discounted onboard service.

Star is leased to Irish Continental Group plc from 5th May 2023 and is expected to start providing services between Ireland and the UK.

There’s been a lot of interest over the years and I’m glad we’ve secured a good deal for her now with Irish Continental Group plc. That was it. kind of an alternative business for our ships and continues to be a good solution that boosts both our company and revenues after a long period of crisis,” says Tallink Group CEO Paavo Nõgene.

The Star’s last flight between Helsinki and Tallinn will take place on the evening of May 1, 2023.
