“What is reported to the SVA helps us follow the infection and then make wise decisions regarding dealing with the virus,” says district veterinarian Agneta Karlsson Norström.
The outbreak of avian influenza in Gotland last year mainly affected Tordmular and Silgrisslor. This year it looks like the seagulls will be affected.
– The reports we’ve received now are mainly of seagulls, which seems to be a pattern for this year. Stockholm and Kalmar have both had major outbreaks of avian influenza in seagulls, says county veterinarian Agneta Carlson Norström.
