Now, more people than ever before in Finland are infected with Govt-19 – while the system for structured testing and epidemiological surveillance during epidemics is low. Infectious disease physician Ville Homberg says the need for simple and clear guidelines is urgent, and he puts forward a definitive plan.
If an infected person is isolated – leaving home – it is currently an offense under the Infectious Diseases Act. The person could face a fine or up to several months in prison.
But it also predicts the isolation of the municipality’s responsible infection control physician. And this usually only happens after a positive test result, because many cases are diagnosed every day.
Many are now wondering how everyone should react when the efforts of infection monitors are unreliable. Sanna Izombi, The chief physician and head of Helsinki’s epidemiology unit, said over the weekend that “the detection of the infection has almost stopped.” This means you need to consider whether you are infected with the virus. Those who test positive at home or with a PCR test should stay home for at least a week with a regular medical certificate. According to Holberg, it is no longer possible to isolate everyone exposed to the virus.
– Many patients are isolated at the same time and we suffer from labor shortage.
– This is now being discussed in many countries, such as the United States, Great Britain and France. Authorities there have relaxed isolation rules. But this is a difficult compromise: controlling the epidemic, but still allowing people to go to work.
Isolating everyone infected with the virus will no longer exist.
In the UK, the Omigron wave has washed away most of the hospital staff. In the worst-affected hospitals, 20 per cent of staff are missing and the British government has asked workplaces to expect a drop-out rate of up to 25 per cent.
Ville Homberg fears that his workplace, Meglance Hospital, will face a similar fate in the coming weeks.
– We need quick fixes now. Otherwise, we could be in a very critical situation.
Need changes in the law?
Holberg believes that in addition to instructions for persons who are ill at home or have a family member affected, the authorities should reconsider the law. The fact that isolated crimes lead to harsher punishments is the reason why Govt-19 has been classified as a common dangerous disease since the spring of 2020.
– But it will not be anymore. The question, then, is whether one should change the definition and bring about changes in the infection control law.
Govt-19 is no longer a dangerous disease.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health rejects the idea of changing the law to relax isolated rules.
“Omikron has led to a sharp increase in the incidence of infections. The need for hospitalization has also increased significantly and there is no reliable information on how large the demand will be in the coming weeks,” the department head wrote. தனேலி பூமாலைனென் To HBL.
Although Omigron can cause mild symptoms, Govit-19 is a common dangerous disease, Boomelanin added. Six to eight people have died daily from the disease in recent months, making it now the deadliest epidemic in Finland.
