At Tamistadion in Estonia, the Swedes lost 1-3 in a must-win match against England in the European Under-17 Championship. The blue and yellow team, born in 2006 and 2007, found themselves at a disadvantage after just under a quarter.
Arsenal talent Michelle Agmyang was wrongly free in front of goal, and after a low cross from Sophie Harwood, she easily slotted the first goal past Malmö goalkeeper Julia Cavander. 1-0, but Sweden managed to catch up with the help of English legs.
Smila Holmberg, a regular at Hammarby, shot a cross which center back Katie Reid tried to break down, but the ball ended up in her own net. Sweden's hope of qualifying for the semi-finals was abandoned and it was alive.
“Great ending”
But in the second half, England took the lead again. Agmeyang escaped the Swedish defense and took a 2-1 lead and scored two goals in the match.
– She is now top scorer with four goals in European qualifiers, which is a great finish, says SVT commentator Niklas Nord.
England eventually won 3-1 with Leicester midfielder Ava Baker scoring the final score. Which saw Sweden lose to France and now England, qualifying for the semi-finals while Sweden plays for third place in the group in the final match against Poland.
Sweden will meet Poland at 12:00 on Saturday, and the match will be broadcast on the SVT Play channel.
