Within twelve hours of Tuesday, more than 100 millimeters of rain fell on Dubai, roughly equivalent to the amount of rain the UAE typically receives in a year.
Almost all departures from Dubai International Airport are said to have been delayed due to flooding.

Emirates, the largest airline, on Wednesday closed all its check-in counters. Air traffic resumed Thursday morning, but with delays as a result.

“It was one of the worst situations I have ever been in,” one resident, whose commute turned from a 15-minute commute into a 12-hour flight, tells The Guardian.
In neighboring Oman, at least 20 people died in the storm that paralyzed the country, including ten school children. Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are also affected.
Also in Afghanistan and Pakistan, floods this week caused major problems. More than 100 people died. It is unusual for heavy rain to fall there at this time of year. The rainy season usually begins in June and continues until September.
