The case of the suspected soldier and his wife is kept strictly confidential. Both suspects were placed in isolation in their holding cells, and Prosecutor Per Lindqvist decided that they should be isolated without the possibility of watching television, listening to the radio or communicating with the outside world in the form of letters.
According to information received by Expressen, the case is so sensitive that security police personnel are in charge of monitoring and all control regarding the food of the two suspects.

Unauthorized placement with confidential information is a crime in the Swedish Criminal Code (Chapter 19 § 7) and a freedom of the press offense according to the Freedom of the Press Act. The offense means that someone obtains, sends, leaves or discloses information about Swedish defense – about the defense forces, weapons, stores, imports, exports, manufacturing methods, etc. – or about any other relationship of importance, if this is harmful to Sweden’s security. The relationship was disclosed to a foreign power. It is also punishable if the person “produces or possesses” writing, drawing or anything else containing such information, for example if the person reads a secret defense document without being authorized to read it. It does not matter if the information is correct or not, according to the text of the law. However, to be convicted of the crime, the person must not have had the purpose of obtaining influence from a foreign power through the act – if such intent to gain influence from a foreign power can be proven, the crime is called espionage instead.
The range of penalties for unauthorized occupancy of a regular grade ranges from fines to a maximum of two years imprisonment. For serious crimes, the maximum penalty is four years.

The security police and specialized prosecutors in the National Security Unit have so far been very discreet about information related to the case. After two press releases were issued on Tuesday, where the arrests were reported, there was silence from the relevant authorities.
Prosecutors are experts in espionage
The two prosecutors now handling the case are the same prosecutors in the espionage case against the brothers Payam and Biman Kia, who were convicted of providing the Russian military intelligence service with classified information.

Large amount of equipment
Expressen has learned that Säpo investigators made a large number of seizures at the couple’s Stockholm apartment and at at least one other address. Investigators also seized the couple’s basement storeroom. Mobile phones and computers confiscated during the raids must be reviewed by Säpo’s IT experts. It is not known whether there are any special findings in the seizures that strengthen criminal suspicion.
On Thursday, the curtains were drawn completely to block the view into the couple’s floor. A neighbor says she thought it was a burglary when she saw plainclothes police at the house.
