Marcus Ericsson’s success – first victory

The Swede took his first IndyCar win when he won the race in Detroit.

– I don’t even remember the last time I won, I was a kid then. It feels so good, says a beaming Erickson in the victory interview.

Marcus Ericsson has not won a race since the GP2 season in 2013. Since then, his career has taken him to Formula 1 and Indycar – without letting him sit on top of the podium.

But in Detroit, the same race in which he finished second two years ago, it finally happened. Eriksson had to fight hard in the summer heat at the end against Rinus Vichai and Patricio Auward who did everything they could to get past the 30-year-old Swede.

But Ericsson held out and was the first goal and achieved his first victory in his career.

It was my day today, the time has come, says Erickson.

Felix Rosenqvist crashed earlier in the race when he drove straight to the guardrail at high speed.

The Swede was carried away on a stretcher, but on Indycar’s official Twitter, he was soon announced to be awake and alert and taken to hospital for further examination.

Geoffrey Bellows, IndyCar’s medical officer, told NBC he was fine, never lost consciousness and spoke all the time.
