LEGO Astro Bot Set Leaks Ahead of PlayStation Launch, but It Won’t Be Sold Separately

LEGO is preparing to bring Sony’s Astro Bot into brick form as part of its forthcoming PlayStation set, according to newly published images. However, fans hoping to buy the character on its own are set to be disappointed, as the model is expected to be available only as a promotional gift.

Astro Bot LEGO Set to Be Offered as a Gift With Purchase

The LEGO Astro Bot set, numbered 40899, contains 276 pieces and is expected to be offered as a Gift With Purchase (GWP) alongside the previously revealed LEGO PlayStation model.

Customers will reportedly receive the Astro Bot model when purchasing the PlayStation set directly through LEGO stores or the company’s online shop, subject to availability.

Rumours surrounding an Astro Bot promotional set have circulated for some time. Newly published images of the packaging now appear to confirm both the design and its status as a set that will not officially be available as a standalone retail purchase.

Brick Tap, which published images of the set, said: “Here’s a look at the upcoming Astro Bot set, that’ll be free with all purchases of the PlayStation set while supplies last!”

Astro Bot Continues His Rise as a PlayStation Mascot

Astro Bot has become one of the most recognisable characters associated with modern PlayStation hardware, particularly following the success of the 2024 PlayStation 5 game Astro Bot.

With Sackboy no longer occupying the same prominent role in Sony’s recent releases, Astro has increasingly emerged as a de facto mascot for the PlayStation brand. His inclusion alongside an official LEGO recreation of the original PlayStation therefore appears to be a natural fit.

The PlayStation model itself also includes references to other well-known Sony franchises, including Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, giving long-time PlayStation fans additional details to discover.

LEGO Astro Bot Measures Around 20cm Tall

The brick-built Astro Bot is expected to stand approximately 20cm, or eight inches, tall and measure around 12cm, or 4.5 inches, wide.

Its compact dimensions make the model particularly suited to display alongside the larger PlayStation set or other gaming collectibles.

For fans in the UK, however, obtaining Astro Bot without purchasing the main PlayStation model could prove difficult. Gift With Purchase sets are generally produced as limited promotional items and can become sought-after collectibles once the official offer ends.

Those unwilling to buy the full PlayStation package may eventually find the Astro Bot set through secondary marketplaces, although promotional LEGO models frequently appear at higher prices after their initial release.

LEGO PlayStation Set Launches in October

LEGO has yet to formally announce the Astro Bot model, while pre-orders for the PlayStation set have also not opened.

The LEGO PlayStation is scheduled for general release on 4 October, with LEGO Insiders expected to receive early access from 1 October. The main set has been listed at $179.99, although UK pricing will be relevant for British buyers once local sales details are confirmed.

The leaked Astro Bot set is expected to be included with qualifying purchases while promotional stocks remain available.

Astro Bot’s PlayStation Future Remains in Focus

The LEGO appearance comes as interest continues around the future of the Astro series following the acclaimed 2024 game.

A further instalment has not been confirmed in the information currently available, but the character’s growing prominence across PlayStation branding has strengthened expectations that Sony will continue to develop the franchise.

Reviewing the 2024 game, IGN wrote: “A fantastically inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation,” awarding it a score of 9/10.

For now, the leaked LEGO model gives PlayStation collectors another Astro Bot item to look out for. Its Gift With Purchase status, however, means securing one through official channels will require buying the larger LEGO PlayStation set while stocks last.
