Parliament re-elects Ursula von der Leyen as European Commission President | News

This will be Ursula von der Leyen's second term as Commission President. She was first elected by the members in July 2019.

The parliament currently consists of 719 members, meaning a majority of 360 votes is required. The vote was closed. 401 members voted in favor of the resolution, 284 against, and 22 members abstained or cast invalid votes.

Before the vote, Ursula von der Leyen laid out her political priorities for the next five years during a debate with MEPs.

The President-elect of the Commission will now send official letters to the EU Heads of State and Government inviting them to propose their candidates for the posts of EU Commissioner. Parliament will then organise hearings of the candidates in the various committees after the summer. The entire College of Commissioners must then be approved by Parliament.
