According to archaeologists, there were thousands of valuable pieces in the area, which have now been destroyed by the tractors.

The newly built park is located in Chersonesos – a district of Sevastopol – which is of great interest to scientists. Chersonesos is an ancient Greek colony built in 5000 BC and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

– The area contains up to 14 meters of cultural layers, says Evelina Kravchenko, a researcher at the Ukrainian Institute of Archaeology NASU. BBC.

The new Putin Park was built on the site of an ancient Greek temple, a pottery workshop and a unique cemetery.

Kravchenko says that excavators have plowed up large areas of land, and local residents have long been able to find coins and other ancient items in the landfill.

The “Historical-Archaeological Park” will be opened soon. On its territory, several historical museums will be located, with exhibits about antiquity and Christianity, as well as about Crimea and the so-called “New Russia” – a Russian propaganda term used as a collective name for the occupied territories and breakaway republics.

“It’s a propaganda center,” says researcher Evelina Kravchenko.

Since Chersonesos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you may not build anything that casts a shadow over the monument without permission from UNESCO, according to the BBC.
