So you can upload music files to Apple Music and listen to them on all devices

How to download music to Apple Music

Apple Music uses the company’s iCloud cloud service to let you play music you’ve uploaded yourself, but that doesn’t mean the music shows up on your iCloud account or takes up any of your storage.

Of course, you also need the music files you want to upload. If you have a CD that you want to load, you must first rip the music to audio files. You can do this using the Apple Music app on your Mac or the iTunes app on your PC. These two programs are also the ones you use to download music afterwards. You must have library sync turned on in the app on your computer and mobile. It is turned on by default but it may be useful to check the settings just for safety. You also need a computer to download music from.

This is how you do it on PC

1) Although Apple seems to be phasing out iTunes, it is still on PC, so download and install iTunes from https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

2) Sign in with your Apple ID in iTunes.

3) In the iTunes menu under Edit / Settings / General, check that the iCloud Music Library option is checked. Note that this does not mean that the Music Library is visible on iCloud or takes up any storage space there.

4) In the menu under File, select Add to Library to add a single song, or Add Folder to Library to add an entire folder with subfolders to the Music Library. Select the music files or folders you want to upload.

This is how you do it on Mac

1) Go to Apple Music on the computer i.e. the app which is simply called Music.

2) In the menu under Music / settings / general, check that the option to sync library is checked.

3) In the menu under File, select “Import” to add one or more songs to the music library. Select the music files you want to download.

4) Now the music will sync to all devices and with Apple Music on the web. You can find it in your library. Note that it may take some time for the music to appear everywhere.
