Tove Alexanderson wins World Cup gold in knockout race

On Sunday, Tove Alexandersson, Lena Strand, Max Peter Bejmer and Gustav Bergmann won the World Cup gold medal in the sprint relay at Kolding.

Two days later, Sweden can rejoice with more World Cup medals in the knockout race in Frederickia.

The best, as she has done many times before, was Tove Alexandersson who took the gold in the women’s competition, her eleventh in a row in the context of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old from Borlange was the fastest in his qualifying group on Tuesday morning and a favorite for tonight’s finals at just over two kilometres.

In the knockout competition, she withstood the preferred pressure and won by a full 15 seconds over Megan Carter Davis, Great Britain, in the final. Dutchman Yves van Dongen won the bronze. Sarah Hagstrom finished fourth while Lena Strand finished sixth and final in the women’s final.

In the men’s final, there were two more Swedish medals. Silver by August Mollén and bronze by Jonatan Gustafsson. Swiss Matthias Kiebors took the gold medal, one second ahead of Mullan and four seconds more over Gustafsson. Martin Rigburn was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Karolin Ohlsson was improperly sealed at one of the inspections and washed up in the playoffs. Isac von Krusenstierna and Emil Svensk competed in the qualifiers.

On Thursday, the WC ice skating race in Denmark ends with an individual race in Vejle.
