During the fall of tech in 2020, major performance strides were made with new graphics cards signed by Nvidia and AMD, while the latter also represented the heavily upgraded system circuits in Microsoft and Sony game consoles. Both consoles and graphics cards have the ability to run modern games in 4K UHD, and it’s the resolution that’s recently found its way into most TVs and many luxury screens.
At launch, Nvidia said the Geforce RTX 3090 also works for 8K gaming only, but swisslockers test Show that 4X higher resolution is tough and requires lower requirements or levels of detail. The next generation of graphics cards is on your doorstep, and during a press conference in Poland, TV manufacturer TCL explains what to expect in terms of hardware in 2023 and 2024.
Poland Personal protective equipment (via Tweaktown) reports the presentation, as TCL unabashedly lists three unannounced products: the Playstation 5 Pro, the updated Xbox Series X/S variants, and the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT. TCL describes the products as part of the “9.5 generation,” a term that’s rarely seen when it comes to graphics cards, but is often seen in console contexts. Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are part of Generation 9.
TV maker Radeon RX 6700 XT puts the same generation 9-Box and credits the products with enough performance to play at 1440p at 120 frames per second, or enough to output a 4K UHD picture at up to 120 Hz — reasonably backed by upscaling technology. According to TCL, a half-step in generation should lead to a performance-critical step. The 9.5 generation is said to be capable of delivering 4K UHD and outputting an 8K picture at a frame rate of 120Hz.
At the time of writing, it wasn’t clear if there were any deeper insights behind the company’s claims, but rumors state that the mid-range Radeon RX 7000 series outperforms the Radeon RX 6900 XT so 8K resolution isn’t entirely out of reach. Additionally, it’s common for Microsoft and Sony to follow up on original consoles with upgraded variants, with the Playstation 4 Pro and Xbox One X being the company’s latest examples. As the launch of graphics cards nears, the details become apparent, which is also true of any new releases from the gaming console giants.
