- The world-famous reality format will be Viaplay’s first domestic production in the Netherlands
- “Dragon Nest” has been produced in more than 40 countries
- Viaplay launches in the Netherlands on March 1
Viaplay will be the exclusive home in the Netherlands of the world-famous reality format The Dragon’s Nest starting in the spring of 2022. The series will be Viaplay’s first domestic production in the country, giving Dutch entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a group of famous investors. Viaplay launches in the Netherlands on March 1 with a unique blend of local and original productions, international films and series, children’s content and premium live sports.
For viewers in the Netherlands and around the world, the familiar concept of “Dragon Nest” gives entrepreneurs three minutes in front of five millionaires, or “Dragons,” to apply to invest — sometimes in an existing company, at other times with barely more than one idea.
This season, restaurant mogul Won Yip, “avocado queen” Sean Harris, chief investor Peter Schoen, entrepreneur Manon van Essen, and serial entrepreneur Bass will invest and miss out on promising new businesses.
Since its 2001 release with “Money Tigers” on Japanese Nippon TV, the format has become a worldwide hit. By producing locally in countries on every continent, aspiring entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to bid to secure investment from some of the biggest brand names in the business world – and to date, over $250 million has been invested in small businesses around the world.
“Dragon Nest” (English title: “Dragons” Den”) is distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television (SPT) under a number of different titles, including “Shark Tank”, “Lions” Den” and “Dragon Nest”. The SPT format has won over 30 awards globally and will soon begin its 19th season on BBC in the UK. The series is produced by Vincent TV (‘Chateau Meiland’, ‘Five Days Inside,’ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’).
Philippa Walstam, Chief Content Officer, NENT Group: “Viaplay for Dutch viewers is simple. We offer local and original productions, the best of Hollywood, high-quality content for children and the sexiest sports – all in a service that represents excellent value for money.” Dragon Nest is a format A proven blend of the illustrious and the unexpected, which launched fantastic companies and entertained viewers all over the world.”
Vincent Ter Voert, Founder and Producer of Vincent TV: “Prospective entrepreneurs in the Netherlands are waiting for the opportunity to realize their dreams. Now is the time to finally take this popular format to the next level, together with Viaplay.”
In the Netherlands, Viaplay will cost €13.99 per month and will be available through distribution partners such as KPN and VodafoneZiggo, as well as through subscriptions sold directly to customers. The service will be the Dutch headquarters for Formula 1, the German Bundesliga and PDC, followed by the English Football League from August.
Viaplay recently named Martijn de Bruin and Kennard Bos as its first executive producers in the Netherlands for factual, documentary and text-based content, respectively.
