Omikron threatens the World Cup in Switzerland

Switzerland has introduced a number of new travel restrictions to deal with the new variant of the coronavirus Omicron. This means, among other things, that travelers from certain countries, such as Canada and the Czech Republic, are forced to quarantine for ten days when entering Switzerland.

This applies regardless of whether you have received a vaccination or not.

In the event that the infection spreads further in Sweden, Switzerland may consider that immigrants from Sweden should be covered by the rules.

The canton of Graubünden next weekend’s World Cup competitions in the Alps St. Moritz, two Super G competitions, have been exempted from entry restrictions (ten-day quarantine).

“We are calm”

However, it is not yet clear whether the Ski World Cup competitions in Davos, with the sprint and men’s 15 km freestyle race and the women’s 10 km freestyle, will be granted an exception.

Anders Bystrom, head of the national cross country team, hopes the competitions will end after contacting the International Ski Federation (Fis).

– The message we got is that Fis is making an exception for athletes and we are calm because they will be resolved, says Anders Byström and continues:

– We will receive a specific message tomorrow (Friday) from Fis.

Swiss soccer team Young Boys could have been affected by entry rules when they play away against Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 8.
