A social media row and defamation case in the British press over the title of Agatha Christie (short for crime writer Agatha Christie and soccer wife “Walk”) was settled on Friday.
Now production company Blueprint Pictures (“A British Scandal”) is teaming up with screenwriter Debbie Horsfield (“Poldark”) to recreate the fight in the form of a drama series.
The conflict started in 2019 Coleen Rooney, the wife of former soccer star Wayne Rooney, has been publicly accused by another footballer, Rebecca Vardy, of selling information about the couple’s private lives to the tabloids.
After uploading the fabricated gossip to Instagram and through the app’s settings, Rooney was able to expose that only Vardy saw it. According to Rooney, the fabricated information was published in the British tabloid The Sun.
He uploaded the results of his detective work to social media, which resulted in Vardy suing for defamation. However, the Supreme Court in London ruled in Rooney’s favor on Friday.
In addition to the drama series, several documentaries are being made about the event – one of which was produced by Colin Rooney himself.
