Today’s NATO Summit on Ukraine – Rearmament must be coordinated

NATO Defense Ministers are meeting in Brussels today. The meeting was also attended by participants from Sweden, Finland, Georgia and Ukraine. Among other things, discussions are expected on the agenda on how to deal with the new security situation even in the long term after the Russian invasion.

The countries will exchange information about the situation and talk to each other about the rearmament of NATO. The United States has sent several thousand soldiers to Europe, and they need to be coordinated in where they will be placed and what the command arrangement should look like, says David Boati at Morgonstudion.

Sweden shares: “It has information”

Sweden and Finland are now at the negotiating table in all NATO meetings on Ukraine. Countries will be present at a portion of today’s meeting where no sharp decisions are made.

– It is a kind of symbolic act, we are as close to the members as possible without being members. We are close to Russia and we have good access to information about what is happening in the Baltic Sea region, says David Poiti about Sweden’s involvement.

Beware of chemical weapons

Before the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that Russia could use chemical weapons in Russia, TT reports.

– Now they are making ridiculous claims about biological laboratories and chemical weapons in Ukraine. This is another lie. We’re concerned that Moscow might be about to do something, perhaps with the help of chemical weapons, Stoltenberg says.

Every use of chemical weapons is absolutely unacceptable and it is important that Russia understands this, he says.
