It was the last day of last year that pregnant Fatima Madrigal from Greenfield, California, went to the hospital to give birth. With only a quarter of a year left, son Alfredo was born—and just seconds after midnight, daughter Eileen was born.
The year had turned into 2022 and it was then clear that the twins chose to come into the world on either side of the duodenum. They were born on different days, months and years, the hospital wrote in one Press release.
It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays. She was surprised and happy that she was born in the middle of the night, says mother Fatima Madrigal.

We will celebrate on the same day
The doctor who was present during the birth described the whole thing as a great way to celebrate the New Year.
– This was clearly one of the most memorable deliveries of my career, says Dr. Ana April Arias.
to the news agency Reuters The family was told that the twins themselves would have to decide when and how to celebrate their birthdays in the future, but for now they would celebrate on the same day.
– I will explain everything to them as best I can. If they want to celebrate their birthdays on different days when they grow up, it is entirely up to them. Fatima Madrigal says they are younger now, they will celebrate their birthdays together.
