The House of Representatives wants to impeach Biden's minister

The House of Representatives wants to impeach Biden's minister

Republicans accused Alejandro Mayorkas of a “deliberate and systematic” failure to keep the country's borders secure.

By just one vote, 214-213, the Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted to impeach the president. In a vote last week, three Republicans chose not to vote yes, which is why the proposal subsequently fell.

The minister was accused of not complying with US immigration law at a time when record numbers of migrants were arriving at the border, and of making misleading statements about the security situation at the border.

Biden: “A foolish political game”

After the vote, US President Joe Biden criticized Republican politicians because, as he put it, they set an example of partisan policies that contradict the Constitution and that “history will not look upon with kind eyes.”

– It is clear that Republicans targeted an honest official to play their ridiculous political game, he says in a statement.

Now, the matter, if Mayorkas is impeached, goes before the Senate. But Democrats have a majority there.

Trump faces impeachment twice

House Republicans are also investigating whether any of Biden's actions before he moved to the White House could lead to an impeachment trial, Reuters reported.

Former President Donald Trump was impeached twice during the period when Democrats controlled the House of Representatives. He was later acquitted in both cases by the Senate, which had a Republican majority.
