In 2017, 54-year-old Boris Becker was put into personal bankruptcy after he failed to repay two loans of around SEK 70 million.
Earlier in May, Baker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. This is after millions of crowns and awards for his career and property in Germany were withheld from the authorities.
Shortly after the ruling, the former world tennis player was transferred to Wandsworth Prison, about four kilometers from Wimbledon Central Stadium, which the Daily Mail described as one of Britain’s worst prisons.
‘He ruined everything’
When Boris Becker was convicted and taken to prison, his ex-wife Lily Becker finally told about the trial of the couple’s 12-year-old son. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Lily Baker revealed that she did not tell her son about the trial when she was convinced that Boris Becker would be acquitted.
– It was one of the worst things I’ve ever had to do. I’ll never forget when I looked into his blue eyes. She says he couldn’t understand it.
– Somehow, I feel a little sorry for Boris. He had it all. All money, women and fame. She says he owned everything and destroyed it.
After the prison sentence, Boris Becker supports the star Novak Djokovic. Becker coached Djokovic for three years before the duo went their separate ways five years ago.
Seeing him go through this is heartbreaking. Boris has always been kind to me and my family, we’ve had a great relationship over the years.
