Physician: “Increased risk of premature birth and infections”
Dr Carol Cooper told the newspaper she had never heard of anyone giving birth so young, which often had to do with puberty in girls.
– The average age at which girls reach puberty is eleven, but it can occur between the ages of eight and 14 or older. Weight is affected by many hormones. Because babies are overweight today, puberty has already occurred.
Being born at such a young age carries so many risks, he explains.
– There is a higher risk of being underweight in childbirth, preeclampsia, preterm birth and infections.
Carol Cooper says one in 2,500 births takes place without the mother knowing about the pregnancy.
