A 68-year-old man in need of assistance has been sentenced to prison with his three sons and his wife for a serious merit felony.
According to the district court, the man’s incorrect information about his state of health led to incorrect payments of just over 17 million Swedish kronor.
This was stated in a press release issued by the Atunda District Court.

The 68-year-old had polio and therefore received subsidized benefits from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. He has reported for some time that his mobility has deteriorated and therefore his need for help has increased. The information has since formed the basis for an increase in the assistance allowance.

According to the Atunda District Court, the information was incorrect and therefore the 68-year-old, along with his three children and his wife, was convicted of a serious felony-related offence. According to the district court, incorrect information for the man has resulted in the Swedish Social Insurance Agency incorrectly paying just over SEK 17 million to the man since 2011.

The assistants hired by the 68-year-old were all employed in a help company owned by one 68-year-old son – the same company that two other sons also work for.

The 68-year-old man, his two sons and his wife are now sentenced to three to four years in prison, and two of the man’s aides have been sentenced to probation, surveillance and community service for money laundering.
