Ranked 19th in the world – now Emma is the home run home run in wheelchair tennis

SM ON(H)EMMA CYCLES. Paratennis SM is organized by Västerås Tennis Club. In the wheelchair class, 15-year-old Emma Gerseth represents a large crowd at home.

Next weekend the Wheelchair Tennis WC awaits you at the Bellevue Court in Vasteras. With Emma Jerseyth as one of the house’s big hopes. – I aim to win the women’s category, says the 15-year-old from Vasteras Tennis Club.

The Paratennis SM program includes several classes and lasts for three days, from December 1 to 3.

In total, approximately 30 participants will start.

One of these is Emma Gerseth. She has a lot of SM routine despite her young age.

– This will be my fourth participation in SM, last year I won the silver medal indoors.

It’s going to be a sweaty weekend for VTK’s talent.

She has a silver medal to defend in the women’s category.

Now she will also compete in the junior category – as well as in doubles.

-I’m trying to get two medals. “She’s probably second at the junior level and first in the women’s class,” she says without a tremor in her voice when Vasteras Tieding speaks.

Could there be any advantage to competing on home runs?

– Yes, you know the plans and know how to bounce balls and so on. That can be an advantage.

I started playing wheelchair tennis four years ago.

-I tried many other sports as well, but I became addicted to tennis. It’s fun to play, plain and simple.

Her enjoyment of her time on the tennis court can be seen, if nothing else, in the world junior rankings. There, Emma Jerseyth is in 19th place.

This is possible thanks to some competitors abroad and points accumulated in ITF competitions.

-I played four ITF competitions. In Belgium, France and Great Britain.

Then it still lost some places compared to the last ranking last spring when it was in the top ten.

The explanation is simple – there is daily life with school too.

-I’m in the ninth grade in an English school and there are a lot of national tests and the like.

Four tennis sessions per week

Tennis is a big part of Emma Gerseth’s life.

– I play tennis four times a week, in addition to the gym.

The training conditions in Bellevue are the best imaginable – there is the national team coach Jens Nilsson, who is very involved in Paralympic tennis.

What do you dream of in the future?

– Obviously I’m aiming to participate in the Paralympics at some point.

But first SM on home courts.

With her from the organized tennis club Västerås, Emma Gjerseth is accompanied by her clubmates Jan Bostöm and Aron Hosang, both in the wheelchair row.
