He excelled in the semi-finals.
But Sweden responded in the best way in the bronze match.
Almeida de Val and Oscar Eriksson took Sweden’s fourth Olympic medal in mixed curling.
Sweden had a heavyweight group bout in the mixed double curling tournament and were actually just a millimeter away from missing out on the qualifiers entirely. In the final group match, Italy was forced to beat Canada in order for Sweden to continue playing, and at the last stone, it was the millimeter measurement that helped Sweden the most in their search for a medal.
I started strong
In the semi-finals, Italy was waiting, which during the group stage won nine out of nine matches, then Oscar Eriksson and Almeida de Val had no chance. The loss was 8-1, and a bronze match against Great Britain early Tuesday morning.
Sweden started the match against Great Britain well and, with the opponent with the last stone, finished the first round by 0-1. In the second round, Almeida then presented a superstar that gave Sweden four points, and an iron fist on the bronze match.
Sweden’s fourth medal
In the third round, Sweden stole another three points, after a real mistake in the last stone of Great Britain, then the bronze was largely locked, as long as no serious mistakes were made. In the fourth round, with Great Britain by the last stone, they stole another point, then Sweden led 8-1.
Great Britain then used the powerplay – but it only ended with another point to Sweden, then the bronze was pretty much locked in. Almeida de Val made a very perfect match, dying in every situation Great Britain faced, while Oscar Eriksson also played an outstanding performance. Although Britain had two points in the sixth round, there was no more play. Sweden won 9-3 – Sweden took the fourth medal at this year’s Olympics.
