Xpeng, or rather Xpeng Aeroht, is now one step closer to its vision of a flying car. In the past, there were larger drones in the air where one or two people could sit in them, but could not drive like cars. The person I took off with today can’t do that either, but it weighs and at least looks like a car.
The weight was about 1900 kilograms, which is a lot and the first flight went well. The idea is that the wings should fold over the roof of the car, but it will be some time before you have a street-driven, street-flying car. But it is moving forward.
Below you can see how it is supposed to work in the end. There are also two films about how to control the car in the air, this is done with a steering wheel and a lever. They also show that it is perfectly fine to have one of the eight rotating blades come to a stop.
